Large-area optical components with a particularly low surface roughness below 10 nm Ra and with high contour accuracy require efficient manufacturing technologies:
Surfaces with such functions are, for example, large anti-reflective films on solar cells, which increase efficiency in energy conversion. They are provided with special optical properties to change the diffusion of light through refractive and diffractive effects and thus improve the energy yield of the cells.
For the production of these foils, embossing drums are used which can emboss the desired structures into the foils with very high precision and in large scale. The Fraunhofer IPT is working in the field of direct diamond turning for the production of such drums. Our film shows how the machining of these drums can look like.
